Spirit of Uganda

Jack's first field trip as a First Grader was to the Mondavi Center in Davis to see a performance of 22 children from grades 3rd-12th. They are a dance troupe from East Africa who have lost one or both parents to AIDS and they were amazing! I got to chaperone but had to carpool with another mom since the bus was full with 80 students and 4 teachers.

Here's Jack just before getting on the bus!
Arriving at the Mondavi Center in the pouring rain.
Umm... our seats were in the 3rd tier balcony. The place was filled with students from schools all over the Sacramento area.

The performers had a costume change after every song. They sang, danced and played some very cool and interesting instruments.
This was my favorite number. The young men on those drums was a sight to see and amazing to hear!
The little girl in the front middle is the youngest and in 3rd grade. She was precious to watch. They are all so talented and my heart was happy for them to be able to travel and perform like they do but it was also sad for them to think they have all lost parents as well. Most of our kids were antsy and bored but I think it was a great experience for them.
Just before they were about to get back on the bus I had to prove I was there :)
If you ask the kids what their favorite part of their field trip was, they would tell you the bus ride! Typical!
