Field Trip!

60 First Graders, 3 teachers and 13 parents on a school bus=fun fun fun!!!
I got to go with Jack's class on a field trip to the Food Processing Center. I had no idea what to expect but it was actually fun! All the school lunches come from this building.
They started off with a taste test. The kids were told to use all 5 of their senses. Here's Jack smelling pancake #1.
He liked it! They were told to give it :) :/ or :( Pancake #2 was also a hit!
Next they spent time with Shaperoo learning about the different food groups. The kids were given a paper food item and when they said where it belonged on the food pyramid they dropped it into Shaperoo's pouch! The kids loved him!
The last rotation was to see where the food is prepared and packaged. We all had to wear hairnets like the lunch ladies! All the kids loved them!
Learning that food is prepared in large quantities. Here's a giant vat of teriyaki chicken! yummm......bleck.

We toured the warehouse and Jack wanted a picture in front of the forklift. whatever.
In the warehouse they saw boxes and boxes of food and supplies. They all said it looked like Costco.
They also got to spend a few minutes in the freezer. It was 15 below in there! I chose not to do that.
I'm so thankful to be able to do things like this. I love seeing him enjoy himself and hanging out with his friends. Plus I get to document it for him so he can always remember.
