I got an email from Jack's teacher the other day. Here it is:
Hi there! Just wanted to give you an early heads-up that Jack is winning an award for excellence in math next Tuesday at our assembly at 8:30!! If you want to keep it a secret and surprise him, that would be fun. Or you can tell him, if you prefer.
See you then, I hope!

my reply:
wow! thanks! of course we'll be there and we'll keep it a surprise-fun!
too bad we can't even out the math and reading skills-is he always going
to be just good at one! sheesh!
Her reply:
Just hang on--those reading skills are coming along!
Such a fun surprise! We were so proud of him. It's the first Awards Assembly for us and after the progress reports that came out not too long ago, we certainly weren't expecting this! All the subjects were either C or higher or D or below. Jack received all C or higher except for reading. That was a D or below. We had no idea he was doing so well in math! It looks like he got his daddy's math skills and not mine, thank goodness!
Eric and I both were at the assembly and watched all the kids file in and sit on the floor. All 2nd graders on the left and all 1st graders on the right. 12 classes in all. Each teacher went up one by one and gave different awards for each of their classes.
This is the Principal Mrs. Westerman welcoming everyone.
With his award he received free passes to Jon's Incredible Pizza and an IMAX movie. Both are super fun and we can't wait to use those! I hope all the accolades are motivating for him to continue to do well in school-we need all the help we can get!
GO Jack!! I'm so proud of him! That's awesome! (:
