The weather was just amazing on Sunday and we decided to take advantage of it! We skipped church and had a late breakfast at Mimi's Cafe to start off our day. Since Eric has been working Saturdays, it's our only full day together. We decided to head up to the foothills in Auburn for a little adventure. A first for our little family of four!
Here are the kids at the beginning of our hike at the top of the overlook. They were so excited! Especially Abby! She kept saying, "We're going hiking, I like hiking, we're going hiking today right?"
We found this little creek on the trail we were following. We could hear it before we saw it. I was reminding the kids to use all their senses on our hike. We would stop often to listen and look all around us.
The blue skies, slight breeze and beautiful sunshine made the river look so inviting. It really was the best weather for hiking!
This is where our hike ended. We let the kids go off on their own up to the shaded area and then turn around. They started running like we cut the leash loose!
Jack was testing us of course and kept saying how he wanted to go further than we said. Always testing the boundaries that boy!
I just love this picture.
We had to collect some walking sticks along the way of course. Monkey see monkey do!
This was taken where we started and ended our adventure. The kids made it back up the hill with no problem! Eric envisioned carrying Abby most of the way up but she did great on her own! She just wanted her hand held because she's pretty wobbly. In fact, we gave her an Indian name, It's "Unsteady on her Feet." We stopped for little breaks on our way up but other than that they were rockstars!
The adventure didn't end there. We asked the locals directions to the nearest playground and spent about an hour playing tag, frisbee and just relaxing in the sun. There were lots of squirrels at that park so that was entertaining.
I'm not gonna lie, one of the main reasons I picked Auburn for our family adventure was so we could eat at Ikeda's and bring home a pie! We had yummy burgers, grilled cheese and BLT sandwiches along with all the skiers coming down the hill from Tahoe. It was bustlin!
I let the kids pick a treat from all the homemade goodies and they picked gummi dinosaurs and gummi frogs! yuck. Abby also wanted some walnuts. Eric and I picked a Razzleberry pie!
Yay for good food, great weather, and fun family adventures! Looking forward to many more!
love this. what a great day!
