Nugget Field Trip

Abby's preschool took a field trip to our local grocery store and I got to join in on the fun! We arrived and were greeted by our guide and started our tour in the produce section.

The produce guy explained how apples are in season right now and that's when it's best to buy all fruits and vegetables. Some kind of grape was also in season and we got to sample it. Abby was acting very shy and clinging to my leg. Then we headed over to the fish station.

The fish guy had octopus and mussels for the kids to touch with a pair of gloves on. Abby of course wanted nothing to do with that.

Mrs. Gibbons was tired of seeing Abby be clingy and took her by the hand as we moved to the warehouse.

The kids got to see where all the extra food is stored in boxes and on pallets. It was narrow and tall! It's also the fridge area where the milk and all dairy is stored. It was freezing in there!

The kids loved the pizza guy! He showed them how to make the crust and they were loving it! He actually made us all a cheese pizza to enjoy. While it was baking in the wood fire oven we sampled cheese and salami.

We moved on to the coffee bar and got to sample fresh squeezed orange juice. Yummy! They loved watching the juicer machine do all the work.

The bakery was Abby's favorite station of course. She also came out of her shell by then and was having a good time which was nice to see.

The kids got to go behind the counter in the bakery and see how they make all the cakes, cookies, breads and various desserts. The baker even showed them how they make flowers out of frosting. He even sent us home with special orange cupcakes to enjoy!

Their favorite thing was playing with the bread dough. Squishy and sticky!

Our last station was the cheese guy! He showed the kids how cheeses come in all shapes and sizes. We then got to sample an aged white cheddar. Delicious!

We ended our time at the Nugget with a group cheer, "Eight is great!" Apparently the staff do this everyday since they are store #8. Our guide asked for all the kids to circle in and put their hands in the middle and cheer. Abby wasn't having it and it was a little awkward :(

Then we all headed over to Chick Fil-A for lunch. I tried several times for a group picture but we never could made it happen :(
I love being able to join the kids on special days like this. Such a treat that I will enjoy while it lasts!
